What is a public charter School?
Public Charter schools began in Minnesota. They are publicly funded schools, each which functions as its own independent school district, responsible to its organizational sponsor (in our case, Pillsbury United Communities) and the Minnesota Department of Education. Minnesota charter schools may employ only fully licensed teachers and their curricula must conform to the Minnesota Academic Standards. They must also adhere to all statewide student testing requirements. Charter schools are meant to innovate and experiment, to forge new models of learning that inspire change within the wider public system. Our purpose at Quest Academy is to do just that!
How is the school financed?
The vast majority of our funding comes from the State of Minnesota, that is, your taxpayer dollars. In their start-up period, charter schools also receive additional state and federal funding. We find that state monies are adequate to fund a student-to-teacher ratio in the low- to mid-twenties. In order for us to offer more personalized attention, we strive to work with a figure in the mid-teens. Thus, in addition to state funds, we seek support from individuals and foundations in the form of grants, and we conduct an annual fund campaign.
How involved are parents?
There are many ways for parents to be active in the school. Some may have the time and desire to volunteer within the classroom. The talents and dedication of many parents are required to make our after school programs rich, diverse, and stimulating. Parents may also be involved on school committees and governance bodies. In particular, the Community Life group takes responsibility for the social health of the school; students, parents, extended families, and staff organizing a variety of events and programs. Some parents, particularly those with fiscal or legal expertise, will serve on the Board of Directors. And all parents serve the school by staying in touch with and supporting their child's learning!
Where is the school located?
The school is centrally located in the west metro area just off Hwy 100 and Excelsior Blvd. at 3946 Wooddale Ave. S., St. Louis Park, MN 55416. It is located in the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church building.

Will my child's learning style be accommodated? Yes. Our inclusive and personalized program is geared to help students draw upon their strengths and interests, while also meeting the full breadth of academic challenge. Our whole faculty, including our special education teachers, will come to know your child intimately, allowing them to tailor their approaches with optimal engagement and success in mind.
Will my child get personal attention? Your child will engage in a wide variety of learning activities, taking place in larger and smaller groups depending on the type of activity. Our low student-to-teacher ratio enables faculty to get to know each child well and to spend one-on-one time with every child at some points in the day.
Is the school academically rigorous? Absolutely. In fact, the time we devote to activities like centering and social and emotional intelligence build a strong foundation for academic success. Our curriculum draws upon leading edge thinking in all areas. Along with learning facts and concepts, students develop the skills of critical thinking and active discernment.
Is the school affiliated with any particular organization or philosophy? No. Quest Academy is an independent body that values openness to ideas and teaches the skills of free and rational inquiry. Our goal is to prepare students to think for themselves, know how to become better informed, and gain the ability to make informed and reasoned judgments of their own.
